STAGE I

  • Commonly treated to 66-70 Gy with 42% local only failures and 38% distant only failures.
  • In dose-escalation trials (RTOG 93111) using fractions of 2.15 Gy.
    • 83.8 Gy (RT alone) was safe with V20 < 25%
    • 77.4 Gy (RT alone) was safe with V20 between 25 - 36%
  • Concurrent chemoradiation
    • 70-74 Gy appears to be the maximum tolerated.
  • Willner et al. retrospective study suggest that doses of > 70 Gy are needed to achieve 50% local control in patients with tumor volumes < 100 cc (7.5 cm).[1]
