Sinonasal Anatomy
NASAL VESTIBULE
- entrance to the nasal cavity
- lined by skin
- ends posteriorly at limen nasi, the junction of the lower and upper lateral cartilage
- medial wall is the mobile columella, formed by the medial wing of the alar cartilage and the caudal portion of the cartilaginous septum
- the floor is < 1 cm in length.
NASAL CAVITY
- begins at limen nasi
- ends at posterior nasal apertures or choanae
- from hard palate to base of skull (sphenoid sinus, cribriform plate, and frontal sinus)
- lateral border is the perpendicular plate of the ethmoid and pterygopalatine fossa.
MAXILLARY SINUS
- single pyramidal cavity
- medial: nasal cavity
- roof: orbital (ethmoid sinus)
- anterolateral: facial
- posterolateral: infratemporal
